Courage to Conquer

Toastmasters International President Jana Barnhill, DTM, ACS has chosen as her theme for the year Courage to Conquer. She has challenged all Toastmasters to draw upon their inner strengths and determination to conquer those barriers that have held us back from accomplishing our goals, and reaching new heights in our personal pursuit of excellence.

This year already, we have seen many of our members demonstrate their courage by stepping up and competing in the evaluations and tall tales contests. As I listen to some of their testimonials during the contestant interviews, I am amazed and proud to see them taking on a challenge that only months before, they would never have even dared consider.

Also, the following members: Kathy Moore, Linda Williams, Mickey Michaels, Guadalupe Sosa, Jack Hathaway, and Clark Lyman have each conquered a number of barriers as they have achieved the Distinguished Toastmaster award this fall.

What are your barriers? In your pursuit of excellence this year, know that you also have the support of your fellow Toastmasters in your club and district to provide support and encouragement to help you find the courage to conquer.

At the fall conference in Austin on November 15, a number of the educational sessions are focused on membership development and providing you with the extra tools you need to conquer. I hope you go to the conference link on the district website and check out all that is being offered at a very low price.

Jack Rabbit Dash

This is a challenge to encourage Clubs, Areas, and Divisions to get a strong start on the 2008-2009 Toastmaster year. The prize will be a trophy and the satisfaction of knowing that you have gotten this year off to a great start!

The Club Dash ends September 10 and will be announced at the Area Contest. The prize is a trophy to the winning club.

The Area Dash ends October 3 and will be announced at the Division Contest. The prize is a trophy to the winning Area Governor.

Division Dash ends November 3 and will be announced at the fall District Conference. The prize is a trophy to the winning Division Governor.

The number of contestants participating in the Tall Tales or Evaluation contest will be added to the Jack Rabbit Dash total on the day of the contest (area, division, or district).

The Fall Conference will take place Saturday, November 15, 2008 in Austin! Join Toastmasters from around the district for outstanding educational sessions, the Evaluation and Tall Tales Speech Contests, and Lots of Fun!

The Mission of the District

The mission of the district is to enhance the performance and extend the network of clubs, thereby offering greater numbers of people the opportunity to benefit from the Toastmasters educational program by:
